Flower show

These are some of our petal designs. George was 1st, Damian 2nd and Shaun was 3rd.
Yesterday we had our flower show. We all made a weed display. Reid got 1st
Emma was 2nd and Shaun was 3rd.

Joel and Reid found some large exciting looking bones on the grass and underneath some dirt at home. They bought them to share with us at school.

Were they dinosaur bones? NO! They were cow bones.

The boys showed us how the bones go together.

Their friend Paula the vet came to visit us at school and answered our questions. She talked about the bones and where they fit on a cow. It was really interesting.

Did you know that the bones get ground up and made into fertiliser? We call it 'blood and bone' and use it on our gardens. The blood comes from the dead cow too.

Story Writing

Yesterday we put the sprinkler on the tramp. Then me and Ruby turned the sprinkler on. I think that the middle sprinkler is the best one. I picked up the sprinkle and squirted Ruby. It was fun squirting Ruby with the sprinkler. After me and Ruby had finished with the sprinkler we sunbathed on the lawn but then Ruby had to go to cheerleading. I had no one to play with.

On Sunday me and Mo built a tree hut. We cut the cover off Kate's old hut. Then we stapled the cover on. Me and Mo got crates, one was for the floor, the other one  was for the boards to hold the hut together. Now we are on the top floor making it stable. Then we will paint it and finish the top floor. When it is finished we will play in it.

On Monday Tory came over to our place. We went down to the shed and looked at the tractor and the two- wheelers. We went to the drain and to the pumice with the bikes. At the pumice we rode over it and I did not fall off. Tory got to ride the big blue bike. At the drain we rode the plastic bike and the back wheel went sideways but I got it out. When I went to the deep bit I needed to get off because it went into the big pipe.

Weaving flax balls with Libby.

  • Libby told us the names of the flax leaves and how to cut them. We are only allowed to cut the Grandparent and Great Grandparent leaves off the flax bush.

Then Libby showed us how to pull the leaves apart ready for weaving.
We had a buddy to weave with.

It was very tricky to weave the four bits of flax. When we had finished weaving we rolled it into a flax ball.
Then we played with the flax balls.

When we have lunch or morning tea we have to put our scraps in the tiger worms house. When they eat heaps of scraps they make worm tea.

This term we got two new wormeries (donated by the Otewa support group ) to put our food scraps into. They are on the deck so that we can watch what happens more easily. We will put the worm tea into bottles to sell as fertiliser.
